Macy Rodman And Mister Wallace Team Up On Sultry Single “Grunt”

“Make you grunt/ I’m a full-grown woman/ Do all my own stunts.”

June 20, 2017

"Grunt" is the new single from Brooklyn pop singer Macy Rodman featuring rapper Mister Wallace, and it's out today on Rodman's new album, The Lake. The opening seconds of "Grunt" flip a sample from the 1999 film Magnolia: "Respect the cunt," roars Tom Cruise to riotous applause. It's a deliciously cheeky intro to a song about the kind of lust-fueled moments that summer was made for. "Make you grunt/ I'm a full-grown woman/ Do all my own stunts," sing-whispers Rodman on the chorus of the sultry pop number, before Mister Wallace chimes in with a flow that snaps like elastic.

"This was one of the first songs I started working on for the album," Macy Rodman told The FADER over email. "There was a very specific kind of pop song I wanted to reference that displays sexuality in a robotic/demonic way, songs like Janet Jackson's 'So Much Betta' or Britney Spears' 'Radar.' I was so happy to work with Wallace on it because when we talk about music, we think about things in a similar way and we were able to just have a blast writing and end up with something we love. And Wallace's music both solo and with Banjee Report is so off-the-charts innovative and futuristic and visionary I couldn't wait to see what they would do with the song."

"Macy is one of my favorite artists and 'Grunt' is one of my favorite songs from her album The Lake," Mister Wallace told The FADER. "I was thrilled when she asked me to collaborate and I know everyone is gonna fall in love with our first child."
