Soccer Mommy Debuts “Allison,” A Lonely-Sounding Song With A Video To Match
It’s off Collection, the bedroom pop songwriter’s new mini-album.
If you're just discovering Soccer Mommy, feel lucky: the New York artist, whose real name is Sophie Allison, already has a decent-sized back catalog to delve into. Her music, which fits in nicely with the contemporary Bandcamp-rock underground, is hinged on the anxious intimacy of someone who has been up all night, thinking about love. This summer, Fat Possum will release Collection, a new compendium of Soccer Mommy songs. Today, The FADER is debuting her first-ever music video. It's for one of the mini-album's previously unreleased tracks, "Allison," an unhurried guitar jam.
"'Allison' is a song about feeling like you're putting yourself ahead of someone you love," Sophie told The FADER in an email. "It's probably one of the most personal songs on the album, which is why the video kind of focuses on me and my own solitude. I spent last year away from the person I was seeing and I focused a lot on my music and this song is kind of a reflection of the distance and loneliness I felt while spending time on my art."
Collection drops August 4. Pre-order it here.
