Maya Jane Coles Shows Her Vulnerable Side In New Track “Weak”

From the British producer’s second album Take Flight.

British-Japanese house producer Maya Jane Coles is full of surprises. On "Cherry Bomb," the first single from her second album Take Flight (out via her own imprint I/AM/ME on August 25), she showcases her melodic bass sensibilities. But its follow-up "Weak" is a more low-key, emotive track, and its video — premiering above — shows Maya singing to camera for the first time.

"This track I actually produced around four years ago," Maya wrote to The FADER in an email. "A lot of DJs and producers in this scene are often treated as unstoppable immortal forces. When I DJ in front of crowds of thousands of people, I have to take control of a room and showcase my more powerful side. But when I make music, I'm letting people into a way more personal and vulnerable side of me. At the end of the day, I'm human too; I like to make music that everyone can relate to in some way."
