Watch Rick Ross speak at the Meek Mill rally in Philadelphia
“I’m here to support my brother Meek Mill.”
The people of Philadelphia came out to show support for Meek Mill on Monday, with a rally held for the rapper in protest against his lengthy prison sentence. Early in the day fans gathered outside the Criminal Justice Center in Philadelphia and were filmed chanting Meek Mill's "Dreams and Nightmares (Intro)."
Later on, Rick Ross turned up and spoke to the crowd that had gathered for Meek. Meek's boss at the Maybach Music Group label, said: "I'm here to support my brother Meek Mill. I want y'all to understand that if it take Meek Mill to draw this attention, we gonna use Meek Mill to draw this attention that is gonna speak for so many others."
He was joined by former 76ers basketball player Julius "Dr. J." Erving, plus football players from the Philadelphia Eagles. Malcolm Jenkins, Torrey Smith, Jalen Mills, and Wendell Smallwood were among the teammates in attendance. Mills held a sign that read "We support you Meek."
Though not at the rally himself, former San Francisco 49ers footballer Colin Kaepernick also tweeted about Meek's situation, throwing his own support behind the rapper.
It was later reported that the FBI are looking into the judge who handed him his two year jail sentence.
