Sarz, DJ Tunez, and Flash’s “Get Up” video brings you straight to the function

The dance-off lives on.

December 08, 2017

When you hear a Sarz beat, it’s hard to keep your body from jumping up and dancing along. The Nigerian producer builds sounds for some of your favorite african pop artists — a longtime collaborator of Wizkid’s, he’s the mind behind this year’s sultry mega-hit “Come Closer” featuring Drake. Premiering today on The FADER is his video for “Get Up,” a late-2016 collaboration with New York-based afrobeats selector and producer DJ Tunez, which features the sweetly agile voice of 19-year-old Lagos newcomer Flash.

The song is an absolute bop, from Flash’s opening “Get up, get up, ehhh, she’s a dancer!” to the wonder-inducing chords and spine-tingling percussion. In the video, the track's sentiment is brought to life beautifully. Featuring appearances from Sarz himself, and starring Flash, the clip puts a fresh spin on the classic boy-girl dance-off. Watching it, you wish you could jump right in.

Of the video, Flash shared over email, “One word — amazing. It is my first on-screen appearance, and like every other first-time type of thing, there’s this awkwardness that follows. But, I thank God cause at the end of the day, looking at the video and everything our synergy made it become. It’s just really amazing.” Sarz also shared his excitement, “It’s young. It’s vibrant. It’s fresh. It’s colorful. I love the dance routine. Clarence [A. Peters, the director] did an amazing job. I think I did an amazing job. Flash did an amazing job, and I’m so proud of him.”

Sarz also says he’s got quite the year planned. “Just watch this space. I’ve been working so hard. I have so many projects coming in 2018. Keep it locked.” Watch the video above.
