Watch Goat Girl’s gender-flipped take on Beatlemania

Scream as hard as you can, it’s the U.K. band’s new single.

Goat Girl, the south London group that mixes punk with country and goth, has confirmed details of its debut album. The self-titled LP will be released on April 6 via Rough Trade Records and to celebrate, the group is premiering the video for new single "The Man" on The FADER.

Based on The Beatles's 1964 movie A Hard Day's Night, the clip sees the band play their rattling, lo-fi single while groups of boys freak out all around them. The comic idea results in police holding these men back as they scream and shout for their heroes. Their excitement can't be contained though and Goat Girl must make their escape down an alleyway.

Speaking to The FADER via email, Goat Girl's Ellie said: "The concept for the video was [directors] CC Wade's idea. It’s interesting to swap this broadly generic gender role in such an overt way. When we first sat with them at [British chain bar] Wetherspoons and discussed it they talked about the bridge of 'The Man' reminding them of The Beatles's 'Help,' and how we could turn the predominantly female hysteric nature of that time on its head. You can take away what you want from it. I hope it makes people laugh."
