Netflix aim to produce 700 original movies, TV shows, and specials in 2018 an exec from the streaming service has said.
Variety reports that Netflix CFO David Wells spoke on Tuesday at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference. He said that the company's multi-billion dollar commitment to original content would continue as it is driving up subscriber numbers.
The company’s strategy continues to be, “Let’s continue to add content — it’s working, it’s driving growth,” Wells said. Netflix is reported to have committed $8 billion to new content in 2018 alone.
The 700 figure includes around 80 productions from outside the U.S., including critical favorite Dark, a German sci-fi show compared to Stranger Things.
Netflix has recently signed major deals with network TV favorites Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy. Already in 2018 shows including Queer Eye and Altered Carbon have debuted alongside hyped movie The Cloverfield Paradox and Chris Rock comedy special, Tamborine.
