Rising country star Brent Cobb debuts “Come Home Soon”

A missing-home song from small-town Georgia.

April 26, 2018

The FADER has officially not praised Brent Cobb enough. The country singer-songwriter from Americus, Georgia, released a monster debut in 2016, Shine on Rainy Day, and is heading out on a massive run this summer in support of Chris Stapleton. His follow-up album, Providence Canyon, hits May 11 via Low Country Sound/Elektra, and was recorded at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A with the now-legendary Dave Cobb (who's also his cousin). "I want a safe haven to feel like it’s OK to make art for the sake of art and not worry about anything else," Cobb told me when he took over the studio.

"Come Home Soon" is such a sweet song for a road warrior like Cobb, who still has a few dates on his own spring headlining run left — in New Orleans, then westward. There are probably 100 dates listed on his site. This particular song was written seven years ago, when he was touring with Willie Nelson. "It was the first major tour I had been a part of," Cobb says. "I was living it up! And maybe losing myself a little... It's hard to tell when you're in the middle of it. Sometimes, even these days, it's still hard to tell."

Such a sensitivity to time and people in his songs — maybe he gets a little fried like the video suggests, but, as he sings, that's "only trying to survive." Can't wait for this album, it's gonna be the summer soundtrack. Pre-order Providence Canyon here.
