Last week Childish Gambino announced a series of pop-up events in London, Los Angeles, and New York. The Summertime Starts Here pop-ups turned out to be a chance for fans to enjoy free ice cream and buy exclusive merch including, as Pitchfork notes, an alternative version of 2016 album Awaken, My Love! on vinyl.
The album features its original title, Operation Highjump and alternative artwork. Creative director Ibra Ake showed his copy off on Instagram.
The London pop-up took place at Lovebox festival on the same day Childish Gambino headlined. Donald Glover showed support for London's anti-Trump protests and played new songs "Feels Like Summer" and "Summertime Magic" during his hour-long set. Check out highlights from the show here.
My favourite thing on the Lovebox merch stand was the Childish Gambino vinyl banner and it was not for sale pic.twitter.com/MXsbzpvYG0— Peter Robinson (@Popjustice) July 14, 2018
