Peigh’s “Answering Phone” video is a throwback to an ungentrified London
Watch the grime MC’s new visual.
U.K. grime MC Peigh's new video is an ode to London, specifically one he remembers before iPhones, social media, and the creeping rise of rennovation left his neighborhood unrecognizable. "Answering Phone" is a urgent and addictive grime tune packed with fast-paced bars referencing long cigarette breaks and specific parts of South London. This is matched with a Ruby + Boya-directed video showing Peigh's ends including old-school phone boxes, a vintage Mercedes, and a super cute dog.
Speaking to The FADER via email, Peigh says: "We've all been there. You lend someone some money, you try calling to get it back, they don't pick up, and you see them on Instagram having a good time. The video is a nod to the London I remember growing up - faceoff Nokia's, phone boxes, Helly Hansen and Air Max - these days London's barely recognisable with all the new builds and constant construction that's going on, I wanted to keep the visuals as authentic and genuine as possible."
