Yowler’s “Where Is My Light?” is about "hating your stupid fucking phone”

Hear the new single from her upcoming album, Black Dog In My Path, now.

Yowler is the dark rock outfit of Philadelphia-based artist Maryn Jones, who's been churning out solo DIY creations since 2004 while also playing in All Dogs and Saintseneca. She's currently prepping for the release of her second album Black Dog In My Path, due out on October 12 via Double Double Whammy. Today she's sharing the latest single from the project, "Where Is My Light?," a heavy cut that roils with electric guitar, her vocals nearly drowning in it. I can't help but think of Evanescence, or maybe The Cranberries, but quieter, and not nearly so all-consuming. It is a rumbling, inner turmoil.

Over email, Jones explains the the track is about "feeling isolated after a big & unexpected life transition. During this time I had a lot of time to think about what was important to me, what served me and made me experience real joy, and what did not. It’s about being an artist under capitalism and all the mess that that can cause in your brain. It’s about missing the natural world and all the beauty you see when you’re on the road, and hating your stupid fucking phone.”
