Individually Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus have made some of the most accomplished and heartbreaking music of the past couple of years. It makes sense, then, that together their powers are only stronger. This is proven on boygenius, the self-titled EP from their joint group. The six song effort includes the previously released ""Bite The Hand," "Stay Down," and "Me + My Dog", plus three more tracks. The release is something of a surprise, with the EP not due for physical release until November 9.
Speaking to The FADER about boygenius as part of her recent cover story, Phoebe Bridgers said all three artists needed the writing process. “Literally, every day we said to each other, ‘I feel so seen and heard,’” she said. “It was very ‘therapy group.’ We needed each other’s energy. I needed that female energy. I could assert myself and no one questioned me.”
All three members of boygenius will be going on tour together around the release of the boygenius EP. The tour will see them swapping places on the bill for individual sets, and sharing the stage at the encore to play some of the collaborative tracks. The tour kicks off at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on November 4 and finishes at The Wiltern in LA on November 30.
