Burna Boy is not happy with his place on the Coachella poster

“I am an AFRICAN GIANT and will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means.”

The line-up for Coachella 2019 was announced on Wednesday and Burna Boy features on there alongside headliners Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande. However, it seems that Burna Boy is not quite as high on the billing as he would like.

In a now-deleted Instagram Story the Nigerian artist hit out at Coachella organizers who have placed him below Cirez D, Chvrches, and Dillon Francis on the Sunday line-up. "@coachella I really appreciate you. But I don’t appreciate the way my name is written so small in your bill," he wrote on Instagram. "I am an AFRICAN GIANT and will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means. Fix tings quick please."

Prior to seeing the poster Burna Boy hyped fans up for his festival appearance, writing: "Everybody change your plans!! We all move to Coachella!"

In a subsequent post, still online at the time of writing, he walked back the excitement: "I represent a whole generation of SOLID AFRICAN creatives going global. Not the soft, low self esteem Africans with the slave mentality. I will grant an interview soon to make myself understood. Nothing I say comes from any place of “pride” or any sense of “entitlement”, it comes from my vision of the future of AFRICA not just AFRICAN music."

Burna Boy's latest project, Outside, was released in January last year. Coachella takes place on April 12-14 and 19-21. Check out the full line-up here.
