Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield are “in talks” to star in a Fred Hampton movie
Jesus Was My Homeboy is set to be produced by Ryan Coogler, director of Marvel’s Black Panther.
A biopic on the life and death of Black Panther activist Fred Hampton titled Jesus Was My Homeboy is in the works according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya is being eyed to play Hampton, beloved deputy chairman of the Black Panther national party – Stanfield is wanted for the role of William O’Neal, the FBI informant who gained access to the Panthers. Black Panther writer/director Ryan Coogler will produce, and Shaka King co-wrote the script and is set to direct.
Fred Hampton was only 21 years old when he was assassinated by the FBI and Chicago Police on December 4, 1969.
Jesus Was My Homeboy is the second Fred Hampton movie to be announced in two years. In 2017, Training Day director Antoine Fuqua announced he had begun developing a film based on Jeffrey Haas’s book The Assassination Of Fred Hampton: How The FBI And The Chicago Police Murdered A Black Panther.
