Lil Nas X, pariah of the country music world and newly-minted star of the regular world, has brought his 5-week Billboard topping hit "Old Town Road" to Showtime's Desus & Mero for its maiden TV performance, as Pitchfork points out. Taking the stage in an Old West-themed bar set, Lil Nas X performed the track with a full band (sans Billy Ray Cyrus, sadly.) Speaking to Desus and Mero before the performance, Lil Nas X opened up about how his life has changed since "Old Town Road" his number one on the Billboard Hot 100 five weeks ago.

"Every day, it's like, everything [feels like] a dream," the 20-year-old rapper told the pair. Speaking on the controversy surrounding the track's exclusion from the country music charts, Lil Nas X didn't seem too fazed: "It's unreal, but that terrible situation ended up helping me," he explained.

Lil Nas X remains atop the Billboard charts this week, beating out Taylor Swift for the top spot. The rapper recently performed the song acoustically with John Mayer on IG TV.
