Back in 2018, there was heavy and heated debate over whether Idris Elba should step into the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the franchise. As polarising as casting a Black man in the role historically held by 9 white men seemed at the time, reports have surfaced that the franchise is doing one better by casting Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch in the role of an agent who assumes Bond’s infamous agent number, 007, after he retires.

According to the Daily Mail, the next film in the franchise will follow Bond’s retirements and return after spymaster M asks him to come back. “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” says a Daily Mail movie insider. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

The source also added: “This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film.”
