LA authorities posthumously investigating Nipsey Hussle for gang ties

A new Times report reveals that LA officials were investigating Nipsey Hussle long before his death.

July 16, 2019

The New York Times is reporting that the LAPD and city attorney’s office currently have an open investigation into Nipsey Hussle, his associates, and the strip mall he owns on the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. Beginning before Hussle’s death by shooting on the property in March, the investigation was designed to determine whether said mall is a hub for gang activity. Investigators were supposedly emboldened by Hussle’s death, as it was exactly the kind of violent activity on premises they were hoping to prevent.

According to the Times article, authorities put pressure on Hussle’s former landlords to evict his Marathon Clothing store; instead, they sold the entire strip mall to him and a group of investors for $2.5 million. The LAPD declined to comment on the investigation to the Times but told the paper that police were still in negotiation with Hussle’s associates to try to curb crime in the area.
