The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek dead at 75

Iconic new wave pioneer Ric Ocasek, primary singer, guitarist and songwriter for The Cars, has been found dead at the age of 75.

Multiple sources are reporting that Ric Ocasek, frontman of iconic new wave band The Cars, has been found dead at the age of 75. The New York Police Department has confirmed to Variety that the producer, singer-songwriter and guitarist was found dead in his apartment after emergency services received a call to Ocasek's apartment regarding an unconscious man. They pronounced him at the scene.

Ocasek was a prolific musician, recording seven albums with The Cars, seven solo records, and one spoken-word collaboration album with Alan Vega. As a producer, he helmed records by Weezer, Hole, Martin Rev, Jonathan Richman and various others. In 2018, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame alongside The Cars. The final Cars record was released in 2011.
