The death of Guru in 2010 seemed to foreclose on any possibility of a new Gang Starr album, a project that fans had been clamoring for from the beloved rapper and his Gang Starr cohort/producer DJ Premier. But today the drought is over with One of the Best Yet, a brand new Gang Starr album constructed from scratch by Premier himself. Guests include J. Cole (who said his verse on "Family and Loyalty" would be his "last feature ever"), Royce Da 5'9", Talib Kweli, and Q-Tip, who constructed a fantastic album for A Tribe Called Quest after the death of founding vocalist Phife Dawg. The songs on One of the Best Yet are more than just a fitting tribute or adequate, legacy-preserving follow-up — they're woven together with a rare joy of craft and delivery. Listen to the album in full below.
