Digital FORT: LA Timpa’s “Self Respect” defies categorization

A disorienting 13-minute performance from the experimental artist.

Digital FORT is now over, and this video has been removed from The FADER.

Nigerian-born, Toronto-based experimental artist LA Timpa's submission to Digital FORT is a thrillingly disorienting experience. A 13-minute visual art piece built out of 58-, 20-, and 17-second studio recordings, the performance brings together storytelling, beats, soundscapes, gestures, and speech for something truly unique. The video, courtesy of Kathryn Tompkins, "emphasizes the spirit of the music capturing constant movements and gestures while riding a remote control car through the streets of South London," LA Timpa wrote in an email to The FADER.
