I'm not one for the twee TikToks of people in quarantine flirting with each other from across the street while staying far apart in their respective apartments. Maybe I'm cynical, or maybe the entire format is tailormade to fit a soda pop commercial, I'm not really sure. Either way, The 1975's video for "Don't Worry" could be conflated with one of those clips, but the visuals cut the cloying bullshit in favor of computer-generated characters in a cool 3D world. In a statement, video director Rindon Johnson said he endeavored to create an animated city free from pollution: "I like to make sure that if I’m animating a different type of reality, it speaks to the possibility of a different state of being and relation. So I wanted to set this film in a permaculture city; one that lives harmoniously with the earth and encourages the slow stillness of being in direct dialogue with one’s natural surroundings.”
