"Dynamite" arrives just six months after the release of BTS' latest album MAP OF THE SOUL : 7, which dropped in February. A Japanese-language version of that album followed in July. A press release describes "Dynamite" as being the result of the group seeking "a breakthrough to overcome a sense of disheartenment stemmed from the new global climate."

BTS will perform their new song at the 2020 MTV VMAs, scheduled to take place on August 30. The group is also set to release forthcoming concert film Break the Silence: The Movie in September.
