Hear Norwegian upstarts This Daze’s pop-rock gem “Less About You”
Taken from their self-titled debut EP, out December 4 via Furō Records.
The members of Norwegian pop-rock band This Daze share an apartment together in their hometown, Trondheim, using a bedroom as their practice space. This has annoyed their upstairs neighbor, whose WiFi name is now "StopPracticingBassYouDick," but otherwise the rising four-piece have been making a positive impression back home since forming a year or so ago. Despite releasing only a handful of singles on a local label, they've already been featured on the cover of the Klassekampen daily newspaper, been picked up by national radio, and opened for nationally adored punk band Honningbarna.
Their new single, "Less About You," premiering at the foot of the page alongside a video directed by Brusjan, is the perfect introduction to four kids who say their sound is influenced by "loud, noisy DIY underground sound of the 90s to the 2020s" without getting more specific. There's a sparky pop-punk energy to Erlend Eggan and Martin Engelien's guitars, but "Less About You" ends up closer to early-aughts Brit Rock and garage rock revival: completely unshowy, a little snotty, intentionally as hooky as possible. It's a promising start for a band who should, all things permitting, find a real-life practice space soon.
