For as long as pop music exists, "Time To Pretend" by MGMT will be a soundtrack for moments of youthful ecstasy as well as nostalgia for those times. The ambivalence, which courses deep in every facet of the song and helps make it a classic, also makes it a prime candidate for a cover by Black Country, New Road. The post-punk group are no strangers to the pull of rose-colored glasses — a line from their song "Track X" says it all: "I told you i loved you in front of Black Midi." The band's "Time To Pretend" cover was shared last Friday during their Bandcamp Live improv performance, and over the weekend video emerged on YouTube. Safe to say that the band remain true to the spirit of the original while making a shambly and compelling dirge all their own. Watch above, and listen to Black Country's just-released debut album For the first time here.
