Tyler, The Creator calls NFTs “a dick-swinging contest”

The digital assets known as NFTs have exploded over the past year, with their growth inviting increasingly polarized responses from artists and fans alike. Tyler, The Creator revealed himself as one of the increasing number of NFT skeptics during a talk for the Converse All Star Series published on Wednesday. Before admitting to a certain degree of ignorance surrounding NFTs and their function, Tyler excoriated NFTs as relatively soulless compared with IRL experiences such as hikes and driving 40 minutes for a donut. "What the fuck is an NFT, bro, if I'm really outside?" he said. "It’s just a dick-swinging contest, like, ‘Look, I bought a picture of a monkey?’... none of the examples I’ve seen is like beautiful art. It’s a fucking monkey in a Supreme hoodie.”
"I'm fully not into it," Tyler continued, "because you can't NFT me looking at you in real life right now... I like tangible things." The comments reflect a similar statement from Kanye West, who in February posted an Instagram statement reading "Stop asking me to do NFTs... I make music and products in the real world."
