The song comes from their 1999 Spit on a Stranger EP, which Matador will reissue on April 8.

"Harness Your Hopes," a Pavement B-side that appears on their 1999 Spit On a Stranger EP, went inexplicably viral on Tik Tok in 2020, leading to tens of millions of streams on other platforms. Now, as the beloved slacker band gears up for their first tour since 2010, they've shared a video treatment for the song from the mind of Alex Ross Perry (director of the Elizabeth Moss-starring 2018 mock rock biopic Her Smell) and starring Sophie Thatcher of Showtime's Yellowjackets. The new visuals lean on Pavement's nostalgia capital, featuring a Walkman, a chalkboard, several yellow trenchcoats, gorilla costumes, a Dukes of Hazard lunchbox, old festival footage, and many more blasts from the past.

The video comes a month before Matador's scheduled April 8 reissues of Spit on a Stranger on 12-inch vinyl and Pavement's Terror Twilight LP, also from 1999. Terror Twilight: Farewell Horizontal will rearrange the record's tracklist in its originally intended order and include B-sides, home demos, rehearsal tapes, live recordings, and rough cuts from a scrapped session at Sonic Youth’s Echo Canyon studio.
