Dazegxd’s vKiSS, the latest release on emerging internet music label deadAir, is a thrilling mix of dance music genres. The New York-based producer and DJ’s playful approach prioritizes fluidity and vibrancy — there isn’t a single moment that isn’t trying to nudge hesitant listeners into the center of the dancefloor. From the barrage of breaks on “Tell Me” to the cathartic vocal highs of “Emotional Engine” and “Blame,” everybody can find something to break a sweat to.
“Idk What Love Is,” an early standout from the album, shimmers equally in daylight and under the smoky lights of a club. The track is propelled by watery keys, softened drums and twinkling synths, all leading up to a euphoric bloom that comes in about halfway through the song. That blossoming happens a few more times throughout the track, returning with the same intensity. It’s a warm and intense feeling that’s ultimately fleeting, but even when it drops out, you can still feel it faintly beating in your chest.
