In the past Patrick Holland has been known for his electronic releases under the moniker Project Pablo – you'll have heard him remix some of his fellow Canadian buddies such as TOPS, Jacques Greene, and Homeshake. Unlike most dudes in bands who secretly wish they were DJs, however, Holland is flipping the script and debuting an indie-pop project. You're The Boss, out July 29, is a collection of rich pop songs with indelible grooves and charmingly lo-fi instrumentation. Holland's voice stands out amid the crowd, a world-weary sigh that imbues songs about everything from anxiety to paranormal activity with heft, while still remaining light enough to float when needed.

The new song "Nice Try" is the perfect entry point to Holland's laid-back sound. He describes the song as being about "letting go and reminiscing about the good times together,” with that unmoored feeling working in juxtaposition to a tight groove that keeps the BPM high and spirits buoyant. Jane Penny of TOPS adds additional vocals, lending her uniquely melancholic tone to a song that, at its core, is about enjoying the final moments of something special. That sense of waving goodbye and embracing the unknown might sound scary, but Holland is there to break the fall.
