The longstanding FADER Mix series presents new, exclusive DJ mixes from our favorite artists, DJs, and producers. This week, we present a serene and stylized mix from Montreal-based electronic duo Jump Source (Priori and Patrick Holland).
Jump Source makes music that compels motion. The group comprising Priori and Patrick Holland releases its new album, FOLD, today, April 30, which merges dance floor craftsmanship with an eclectic and generous pop sensibility. On it, they tap a crew of the underground’s finest: billy woods, producers Deaton Chris Anthony, CFCF Loukeman, singer-songwriter Helena Deland, and more. Japanese trip-hop stalwart, POiSON GiRL FRiEND also makes an appearance. The entire project reflects the environment of their hometown Montreal, where outside frost thaws from the warmth of dance floors.
For their FADER Mix, Jump Source crafted a set that is softly serious, an hour-plus collection of tracks that feels spiritually tied to the cozy living room it was made in. Music from friends like james K meets global voices like German-Chilean minimal techno producer, Ricardo Villalobos. By the end, it'll have you feeling like the featured track: “I Understand Why You Want to Move to Montreal” by Tinkertoy.

Priori: There are too many really. Friends and the people around us.

How has your local scene shaped your mixing and curation?
Jump Source: Montreal has a rich history of rock bands and minimal techno/microhouse. We try to channel both.
How did you link up as collaborators?
Jump Source: Patrick moved from Vancouver to Montreal in the early 2010s. We met at shows and quickly started writing tunes together.
What’s the most memorable set you’ve ever played?
Jump Source: In recent memory, the opening of Parquette in Montreal. Also, Canary Test in LA was really fun a couple weeks ago.
What excites you about the future of nightlife?

How would you describe your FADER mix?
Jump Source: It’s a collection of tunes we really enjoy. Some are classics for us, other are more recent discoveries. Musically rich dance music.

Jump Source: It was conceived in Patrick's living room. Plush couch, coffee, slippers. We then polished it a bit at our studio. Thanks for listening!
