Overflo, a queer music festival scheduled to take place in London this coming weekend, has been "forcibly postponed" following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, organizers have confirmed.
The festival, described as an "international celebration of Queerness within music and the innovators of underground nightlife" was due to take place in Burgess Park in the south of the city, one day before the Queen's funeral. Organizers Pxssy Palace and BBZ said on Tuesday that Southwark Council had withdrawn permission for Overflo to go ahead as planned.
"We are working closely with the council to find an appropriate date to hold thIs event and will be able to inform you of these in the coming weeks," they said in a statement. "We are devastated to not be able to move forward with the event. Both Southwark Council and ourselves have looked at every avenue to ensure the event can go ahead, however, for the reasons outlined below, Southwark Council will not permit them to at this time."
The sold-out festival promised "the very best of global and homegrown Queer, Trans, Non-binary, Black, Indigenous and POC talent" with a line-up featuring rappers Ms Banks, Bbymutha, and Nayana Iz as well as Alewya, Ojerime, and LSDXOXO.
The postponement of Overflo follows a similar fate for this year's Mercury Prize ceremony, also due to be held in London, which was canceled at the last minute on the day of the Queen's death on September 8.
