Smooky MarGielaa charged with second-degree attempted murder

The rapper was arrested on September 1.

Smooky MarGielaa, the 22-year-old rapper born Toumani Diabaté who rose to prominence thanks to songs with the A$AP Mob, has been arrested and charged with numerous offenses including second-degree attempted murder. The New York Police Department confirmed the news in a statement to The FADER.

Diabeté was arrested on September 1 in connection with an incident that took place in the early morning of July 25 at the intersection of 41st Street and Astoria Boulevard in Queens, New York. Local news site Queens News Source described an argument that devolved into a shooting, leaving one person wounded in the stomach. Police released surveillance camera footage of the shooting on July 28 in an appeal for information.

Diabaté is charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. The FADER has reached out to his attorney for a statement and more information.

Smooky MarGielaa first emerged as an artist to watch at age 15 with appearances on the songs “Black Card,” “Get The Bag,” “Bahamas,” and “BYF“ from A$AP Mob’s 2017 collection Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy. From 2018-2020 he released a number of singles on A$AP Rocky‘s label A.W.G.E. including “Flight To Memphis“ featuring Chris Brown and Rocky. His latest single, “Perfect Aim,“ was released on July 1.
