Smino has shared a new song called “Matinee.” It’s the second offering from his forthcoming album Love 4 Rent, following the record’s September lead single, “90 Proof” featuring J. Cole.

“Matinee” is a characteristically chaotic jam from Smino, whose horny falsetto antics won us over on early tracks like “Menu (Me N U)” and “Netflix & Dusse.” The new song shows off several sides of his musical persona: the lightning-quick spitter, the lovelorn crooner, and the old-school master of ceremonies (as well as the aforementioned squeaky-voiced smooth talker). The track ends with a tongue-in-cheek throwback to the city shoutouts that used to be a staple of regional hip-hop. “St. Louis gotta show me what’s up / I heard Chicago got the shit sewed up,” he says, sending love to his birthplace and adopted hometown before getting silly with it: “I heard Atlanta got some big ole butts / Louisiana got some big ole butts.”

Smino is scheduled to drop Luv 4 Sale on October 28 via Motown Records. Early next year, he’ll head out on a two-month, co-headlining North American tour with JID. Listen to “Matinee” below.
