Fred Again.., Asake, Nia Archives, and more named on BBC Sound 2023 longlist

Artists including Dua Lipa and Sam Smith helped pick next year’s biggest hopes.

The BBC has revealed its annual Sound Of longlist. The 2023 list, which aims to highlight the new and rising artists expected to shape the upcoming year, includes jungle producer Nia Archives, R&B girl group FLO, and Fred Again..

Joining them on the longlist are afrobeats star Asake, electronic duo piri & tommy, and Gabriels, whose soulful rock sound has attracted fans including Elton John.

The BBC Sound poll has previously been won by artists including Adele, Pa Salieu, and Haim. Last year PinkPantheress claimed the top spot ahead of Central Cee and Wet Leg.

A panel of 130 industry experts, including DJs, journalists, and festival bookers, compiles the list. The panel also includes previous nominees, with Dua Lipa and Sam Smith among those contributing to this year's selections. The winner will be revealed on January 3.
