Squid, the U.K. post-punk group who broke through in 2021 with debut album Bright Green Field, have announced details of a new album. O Monolith is out on June 9 via Warp with album opener "Swing (In A Dream)" available to stream from today.

“Swing (In A Dream)” was inspired by a dream the band's Ollie Judge had about artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard's The Swing. “In my dream, I was in the painting but it was flooded and everything was floating away,” he says in a statement. A video for the new song, an absurdist spin on Where's Waldo, can be seen below.

O Monolith is produced by long-time collaborator, Dan Carey, and mixed by Tortoise's John McEntire. It features contributions by Martha Skye Murphy and Roger Bolton, known for his work with Kate Bush.

In press materials, the band explains that recording at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios in the English countryside had a major influence in the sound of the record. “There’s a running theme of the relation of people to the environment throughout,” Louis Borlase explains. “There are allusions to the world we became so immersed in, environmental emergency, the role of domesticity, and the displacement you feel when you’re away for a long time.”

O Monolith tracklist:

1. "Swing (In A Dream)"
2. "Devil’s Den"
3. "Siphon Song"
4. "Undergrowth"
5. "The Blades"
6. "After The Flash"
7. "Green Light"
8. "If You Had Seen The Bull’s Swimming Attempts You Would Have Stayed Away"
