In a new Genius lyric breakdown posted two days ago (May 20), Little Simz makes sure to give flowers to Mac Miller, referencing her bar in her hit "Gorilla" from the latest album, NO THANK YOU.
In the track, she raps, "Heaven and Earth attached to one killer / Rest in peace to Mac Miller / New Simz drop to shake the whole shit up." Like Mac Miller, the U.K. rapper relates to his openness in her music.
"Mac Miller, to me, felt like someone that was really unapologetically himself," she said. "Seeing vulnerability in hip-hop is sometimes rare. But I think when we do see it and we do recognize it, it's really telling about a person. So I think he represented honesty and truth." Ahead of her 2023 North America tour, Little Simz has continued to promote her second album, including releasing a Gabriel Moses-directed short film in conjunction with the record and guest appearance on Colbert in February.
