Composer and experimental musician Taja Cheek has returned with the first new music from her L'Rain project since 2021. "New Year's UnResolution" accompanies the announcement of a set of June tour dates across the east coast and midwest. This summer, Cheek will also serve as the performance curator for the Luna Luna art carnival (recently purchased by Drake) and BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn's inaugural artist curator.
"The words of this song were written at different periods of time to give a sense of what it’s like to think through the trajectory of a relationship at different points of my life — right after a break up, and many moons later," L'Rain said in a statement. Together, they add up to a piece of patchwork pop which, as with all of her music, has many details to be revealed upon closer listening.
L'Rain's last full-length project was 2021's Fatigue, which many publications (including us) named one of the best albums of that year. Check out L'Rain's summer 2023 tour dates—most of which are a part of LCD Soundsystem, Jamie xx, and IDLES' Re:Set concert series—below.
