Free Nationals have shared a new track titled “Gangsta,” their first original song since the release of their self-titled, Grammy-nominated debut LP in December 2019. Featuring A$AP Rocky and Anderson .Paak — in whose employ as touring band the funk fusion group rose to popularity — is a lush, kaleidoscopic endeavor, weaving psychedelic strings, pocket drumming, movie samples, and record scratches beneath .Paak’s smoky vocal line and Rocky’s story raps.
“Gangsta” comes with a François Rousselet-directed music video, in which pre-teen analogs of .Paak and Rocky ride around a cartoon Los Angeles in a muscle car, run from the law, testify in court, engage in super soaker shootouts, and throw Molotov cocktails.
