Girlpool’s Avery Tucker is going solo with Paw

His debut album arrives in October with contributions from A. G. Cook, Alaska Reid, and more.

Both halves of Girlpool are now officially solo. In 2024, Harmony Tividad released her debut album Gossip, a hysterical pop record about vanity, apathy, and moral bankruptcy — and now it's Avery Tucker's turn. The musician will be making his singer-songwriter entrance with Paw, an album produced with Alaska Reid and will feature contributions from A. G. Cook, MUNA's Katie Gavin, and Aaron Maine of Porches.

Dropping in October, the project will thematically reflect on Tucker's formative past few years including coming out as transgender in 2018 and Girlpool disbanding in 2022. Its first single, "Like I'm Young," is already out, a burning guitar ballad about gender identity and sexual expectations: "Oh you wish you felt more weight on your hips/ So I lay down as hard as I can/ You know you make it feel infinite / How far I am from being a man," he belts. Listen to it now and get the full details about the album, below.

Who worked on Avery Tucker's Paw?

A close circle of musicians and producers had a hand in putting Tucker's Paw together. Electronic singer Alaska Reid produced the album, while A. G. Cook, MUNA's Katie Gavin, and Aaron Maine of Porches are featured on the record.
