Rosé is the first K-pop artist to win Song of the Year at the VMAs

Rosé made history at the 2025 VMAs as the first K-pop artist to take home the Song of the Year award for "APT." Sharing the award with Bruno Mars, who's featured on the song, the BLACKPINK member delivered an emotional speech about how she navigated insecurity and self-doubt throughout her career.

"Every single one of you has put me here and now I believe there is no imposter in the world when MTV has given me this award here at the VMAs," she said. "This is a really big moment for 16 year old me and anyone else who has dreamed of being accepted equally for their hard work."

Rosé released "APT" in 2024 as her first solo single separate from BLACKPINK. The song, named after a popular South Korean drinking game, achieved huge commercial success, spending over 15 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Global Excl. U.S. chart. It also become the first YouTube video by an Asian artist to reach one billion views.

The VMAs introduced the Song of the Year category in 2018 with artists like Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and more receiving the award in the years since.
