Quiet Light signs to True Panther, drops dreamy “Berlin”

Dream pop songstress Quiet Light (Riya Mahesh) is joining True Panther, the label behind Oklou, Grace Ives, Model/Actriz, and more.

Following the February 19 signing announcement, the singer is sharing "Berlin," the first single from her forthcoming mixtape, Blue Angel Sparkling Silver 2 out April 24.

The song, awash in synth pads and buoyed by a drum break that is reminiscent of early aughts pop, is a continuation of the lush pop universe Mahesh established in self-released projects like 2024's Pure Hearts and Going Nowhere, and her 2023 mixtape Blue Angel Sparkling Silver — the precursor to the coming mixtape.

The video for "Berlin" — directed by Richard Phillip Smith, who's worked on videos for the likes of Vegyn, Slow Pulp, and Audrey Hobert —shows Mahesh reflecting on memories of a lost love via a dreamy domestic montage.

"When I first reached out to Quiet Light about her music, she said she was excited to talk but couldn’t do so for about a month and a half, something I took as a brush off at first, until learning that she wove her extremely intimate and personal music making time into an equally demanding medical school schedule," True Panther shared via the signing announcement on Instagram.

"Quiet Light is a Texan in Massachusetts. A prom queen with Clarice Lispector on her bookshelf. A doctor walking through the icy hospital halls with Shania Twain, Ana Roxanne and Angelo Badalamenti in her headphones," True Panther writes. "We’re thrilled to walk this road with her and even more thrilled to share this music she has made (and continues to constantly make) with the world."

Alongside the flurry of news, Quiet Light has also shared the track list for Blue Angel Sparkling Silver 2 and details around four release shows (tickets available here).
