Hotties up!
Houston rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion announced that she will be starring in Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway for eight weeks, from March 24 to May 17. The run comes before the musical's July 26 close after a seven year-run.
The "Mamushi" rapper will play Zidler (usually known as Harold Zidler), the Moulin Rouge club owner who doubles as the show's host and M.C. She will be taking over the role from drag performer and reality TV star Bob the Drag Queen, whose run ends on Marc 22. Megan Thee Stallion will reportedly be the first female-identifying performer to take on the role.
"Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor," she said in a press release. "I've always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace."
It's not the first time the multi-hyphenate rapper has flexed her stage abilities beyond the mic. In 2022, she hosted SNL (and performed). She's also been teasing a forthcoming animated series on Amazon with Boondocks producer Carl Jones.
"Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling," Megan shared in her statement. "But I'm up for the challenge and can't wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me."
