MIKE, Earl Sweatshirt, and Surf Gang announce POMPEII // UTILITY

Last January, MIKE mentioned an upcoming tape with Surf Gang that never materialized. That album has since evolved into a double disc with Earl Sweatshirt, POMPEII // UTILITY, out April 3. Listen to “Minty” and “Earth,” the first two singles from the project, above.

The 33-track album is a double LP, with MIKE handling the first 15 songs and Earl on the last 18. In an emailed statement, the artists say Harrison, who cofounded Surf Gang alongside Evilgiane and Eera, was responsible for much of the album’s production.

Anysia Kym, Jadasea, Niontay, and Na-Kel Smith will feature on Disc 1, while Lerado Khalil guests on Disc 2. The pair will trade bars on two tracks; check out the full tracklist.

The album and single artworks to date have all been by ceramic artist Sharif Farrag. In an interview with Pitchfork last year, MIKE said he chose the title Pompeii because, “n***as was so clapped in the studio, the homies was just in crazy positions but, like, frozen.”

Earl, MIKE, and Harrison will tour behind the album this summer, crossing the U.S. from June to July before a month long European leg. A few dates in Europe will be MIKE only, so overseas fans should doublecheck their bookings. Check out the full list of dates below.
