LA singer-songwriter Joyce Wrice is an HR nightmare in the new video for “Crack the Code.” It’s the second single from her long-awaited sophomore album, following this winter’s “Break Me In,” and the video follows Wrice as she meets-cute with a dashing coworker. You might have an inkling of where things go from there. “Let emotions takе us, I'm down to ride / I could do this with you every night,” Wrice croons.
The new Yavez-directed clip uses a combination of CCTV shots and more standard fare to follow Wrice through the offices of “CTC Inc.” Choreographed by long-time collaborators Mariah Tlili and Kei Austin, “Crack The Code” showcases an artist revving up to make big moves in 2026.
The FADER caught up with Joyce Wrice over email to chat about the new music video for “Crack The Code.”
The FADER: Tell us about how the concept for the “Crack the Code” MV came together — how did you and your team decide on a director and treatment for the video?
Joyce Wrice: We wanted to keep in the family this time and reunite with Yavez! He did all my videos for Overgrown. I also wanted to do a lil acting and have a storyline that’s relatable to people since we’ve all had a work crush before no?!
The video follows an office romance between you and a coworker —what made that feel like the right narrative for “Crack The Code?”
I wanted to evoke the feeling of trying to figure out how someone was able to get through to you and in my head I kept seeing myself watching footage of me and that person. To get that idea to translate we came up with the CCTV but in an office. I also wanted to be a siren in a suit :)
Your love interest in the video has a shaved head — is it a Shaved Head Summer?
This could be a moment for guys with shaved heads when y'all see the video you’ll see why :)
Who did the choreography for the video? What was the hardest move to get down?
The choreography is by Mariah Tlili and Kei Austin! They actually have been dancing with me for 5 years now. I spent a lot of time finessing this snake head tilt side body roll type of move that was a challenge lol
One of my favorite aspects of the “Crack The Code” vid was the use of surveillance footage shots — how do you balance personal privacy and artistic performance as a musician in the public eye?
I balance it out pretty well. My public image often my emphasizes my artistry and craft rather than personal discourse but I enjoy sprinkling personal things here and there!
Your recent videos for “CTC” and “Break Me In” have been really sharp — what’s Joyce Wrice cooking up for this summer?
Thank you so much :) my second album and I can’t wait to get back on stage and tour the world!
