Blood Orange's Devonté Hynes wears many musical hats.

Today, A24 Music is announcing the June 26 release of the Hynes-composed original soundtrack to The Invite — the Olivia Wilde-directed and led dramedy that features fellow stars Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz, and Edward Norton. The soundtrack's release comes alongside the film's release in select theaters, ahead of a nationwide release on July 10. Its lead single is the aptly titled "Contentious Environment."

The composition, released today, features tightly wound strings which mirror Wilde's character, a high strung hostess (Angela) and wife to Joe (Seth Rogen). The couple's dinner party with another married duo, played by Norton and Cruz, goes off the rails as tensions rise and deep-seated truths are unveiled.

The Invite is far from Hynes's first film score. The multi-faceted singer, composer, and producer has previously written soundtracks for Melina Matsoukas’ Queen and Slim, Luca Guadagnino's HBO series We Are Who We Are, Rebecca Hall's Passing, and Paul Schrader's Master Gardener. As a composer, he has worked with storied institutions such as Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. His last album, 2025's Essex Honey, was among The FADER's best albums of 2025.
