The 47th annual BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! performing arts festival kicked off on June 4 and this year’s lineup is seriously stacked. Don’t worry if you missed out on your chance to see Sheila E., Wayne Wonder, or Patti LaBelle – there are still plenty of great concerts to catch between now and September when the festival winds down.
Speaking to The FADER via email, BRIC Executive Director Siadah Blount said, “Brooklyn is a portal to the world, and BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! is where that energy lives every summer,” Siadah Blount, Executive Director of BRIC told The FADER via email. “Most of it free, under the stars, at one of the longest-running performing arts festivals in the country. If you're in New York this summer, this is the place to be."
Blount specifically highlighted shows by Royel Otis, Black House Radio, and Sasha Velour’s Nightgowns. The festival is also planning a tribute to Brooklyn-born Aaliyah and the 35th annual Lyricist Lounge featuring Jadakiss. We’re looking forward to shows featuring Cindy Blackman Santana Group and Patricia Brennan Septet, a Black House Radio showcase supported by Councilmember Chi Osse, and of course, Liz Phair and Sleater-Kinney’s joint benefit concert on September 19th.
