ADÉLA has announced her new album PRIMA.
The "SexOnTheBeat" singer's new album will be released September 4 via Capitol Records. The record was executive-produced by 100 Gecs's Dylan Brady and Blake Slatkin and will feature already released singles “KGB” and “Red Bottoms.”
ADÉLA shared details about the album's title via a press release. “PRIMA means ‘first’, which is perfect since this is my debut. Being a prima ballerina means you’re the top dog or the best ballerina in the house," says ADÉLA. "It’s a term of endearment in the ballerina community. I’m trying to be the prima ballerina of pop, and this is my first step to achieve that.” She also shared details about the sound and story behind the record: "I want this album to sound exactly like a 22-year-old girl. I tried to express both sides. I mixed the hard with the soft, the vulnerable with the swag of it all, the muscular beats with the feminine energy."
In addition to the album announcement, ADÉLA has shared a new single, "Ain’t In LA” alongside a Fred Gervais-directed music video that was shot in her hometown of Bratislava, Slovakia. The music video is dense with references to Los Angeles and Hollywood, even as it was shot abroad.
The idea for the video was reportedly inspired by ADÉLA seeing a picture of her mother at 18 years old posing in front of a wall plastered with Western pop culture imagery. The song itself is reminiscent of mid-2010s pop and hip-hop, with a central, pitched down vocal sample that reminds me of early A$AP Rocky, or Bangerz-era Miley Cyrus.
