Michael Cloud Duguay taps Lucy Liyou for an ethereal remix of “Winterhouse”
The remix is from Duguay’s Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go project — which features historic church organs from throughout Newfoundland, Canada.

Canadian composer Michael Cloud Duguay has teamed up with noted California-based experimentalist Lucy Liyou for a stirring remix to "Winterhouse" from Duguay's latest full-length project, Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go.
The project, which Duguay spoke extensively about in a July interview with The FADER, features seven church organs from throughout Newfoundland, Canada. The organs are from congregations that are at risk of closure due to the region's shrinking population. The 11-track project, recorded via a solar powered mobile recording set-up with a small team of engineers and musicians, became both a new creation and an archive of these haunting instruments at risk of disappearing.

Liyou, whose 2025 album Every Video Without Your Face, Every Sound Without Your Name was named among the year's best by The FADER, has an uncanny knack for distilling dense feelings into spacious musical environments.
"When I heard 'Winterhouse' for the first time, I set out this plan to sing alongside Cormac Culkeen [of Scions] above the beautiful arrangement, but when I started recording my vocals, I realized how unnecessary they were, how the arrangement already had this 'singing' quality to it that I didn't want to overwork," Liyou tells The FADER over email. "I left [my vocals] out and I like it much better this way. I think this remix reflects what I love about the original track — that warm, wistful quality of the instrumentation juxtaposed against the more obviously frigid title of 'Winterhouse.' A romantic clash."
The remix to "Winterhouse" features tingly, crystalline piano rolls and rich new layers of synth instrumentation. Rather than having soaring vocals as part of the recording, the piece itself takes on the "singing quality" Liyou mentions.
