Alex G and Paul Buchanan have shared their new collaboration “Pain is the Heart of Love” — part of the soundtrack to Jane Schoenbrun's new film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (now playing in select theaters).
The track finds Alex G laying down layers of acoustic guitar and swirling strings, creating ample space for Paul Buchanan of The Blue Nile's expressive and gravelly vocals. The song's lyrics were written by Schoenbrun and explore the blurry space between acrimony and connection.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson and follows a young queer director who's set to revive a horror slasher franchise, Camp Miasma and falls into delirious, all-encompassing state while visiting the first film's reclusive star at the film's original location.
The new film represents the third collaboration between Alex G and Schoenbrun; the stalwart indie artist scored 2022’s We're All Going to the World's Fair and 2024’s I Saw the TV Glow. The film's soundtrack will be released on August 21 and features multiple songs by Alex G, alongside tracks by R.E.M., Sally Shapiro, Donna Lewis, Counting Crows, and Okay Kaya. In addition, Waxwork Records will be releasing Alex G’s full TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA score on September 11.
