What do Sexyy Red, Henry Winkler, and Travis Scott have in common? They’re all appearing in Rolling Loud: The Movie, a new feature film starring Owen Wilson and Matt Rife out October 2.
The new movie stars Wilson as a hapless father who takes his kid to the titular festival against Mom’s wishes – and promptly loses the 13-year-old on the festival grounds. As he embarks on a quest to reunite with his son, he’s joined by Rife, who’s playing Wilson’s slightly-stupid coworker, and actress Christine Ko (Dave, The Handmaid’s Tale). As you might guess, hijinks ensue.
Director Jeremy Garelick says the movie was inspired by real life. “Although his mom was against it, I took our 13-year-old son to the Rolling Loud festival. Then I lost him,” the director says in a press release.
“And all I kept thinking the entire time was, his mom is going to f**king kill me.”
Thankfully, Garelick found his son, though he jokes, “Sometimes, I just wish I’d lost him at a Neil Diamond festival.”
The scripted film was partially shot on the grounds at Rolling Loud 2024 in Miami, including a crucial sequence in the middle of Travis Scott’s closing set. And yes, fresh off The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan, Scott is once again expanding his thespian repertoire, playing himself in the movie. Ty Dolla $ign, Ski Mask the Slump God, and Sexyy Red will also appear in the film, among others. We’re of course excited to see Wilson and Red share the big screen, but we might be most excited for icon Henry Winkler (Scream, Click), who plays Wilson’s boss and Rife’s father.
