American new wave icons Blondie have released the first single “Spectral Eyes” from their upcoming album High Noon, out February 26, 2027. Original band members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein had previously announced that the album would feature drums from co-founder Clem Burke who died at the age of 70 last year, plus contributions from Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, and Zach Condon of Beirut. It’s the rock band’s first album since Pollinator in 2017.
In a press release, Harry said, “This album is classic Blondie—an amalgamation of all our different influences and eras into something new. This music feels grounded in the present, shaped by who we are and how we're living now.”
“Spectral Eyes”—with Marr on the guitar and backing vocals, Burke on the drums, and Matlock on the bass—is a salute to the pop sound that defined the late seventies to early eighties. Listening to Marr’s jangle guitar-style combined with Harry’s cool, nasal vocals makes me dream of being 21 in 1978, dancing amidst a packed crowd at CBGB.
High Noon has been in production since 2022 with Grammy-Award winning producer John Congleton, who previously worked with the band on Pollinator. Congleton has also worked with Erykah Badu and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
“It’s been a long, strange ride, and somehow here we are with another Blondie album,” Stein said in a press release. “I’m not sure what the fuck I’m supposed to say at this point, except that we’re incredibly grateful for all your support over the years.”
